WangKang Festival In Melaka

Every year we usually celebrate Chap Goh Meh with my mum cos her bday falls on the 18th day of cny, by bringing her to Jalan Alor to enjoy the bbq chicken wing and also to watch the Famous Lion Dance. This year, my sis in law invited us to join her in Melaka for the WangKang Festival in Melaka. So off we went  a day before the event which is on the 31st Jan 2012.

According to my sis in law, she mentioned that WangKang Festival only happened a few times. 2012 was the 5th time in history they had this festival. Probably this was the year of the "water dragon" and many predicted that it will be a year full with "challenges". Therefore a Barge was built to collect the evil spirits and bad luck from those that have joined or prayed to the barge.

The night before, we're lost in Melaka town. Our GPS died and luckily we have another GPS in our Ipad. The town was jammed and we wondered why and then we found out why.
There were a pre-festival prayers the night before the WangKang festival and everyone slowed down their cars to take pic of the lion dance. So typical Msian, we too took pictures. Haha

So the next day, we're awaken by the loud noise of the parade. With messy hair and teeth unbrushed, everyone rushed out to watch the parade.
The same lion dance group we saw the night before.

The dragon dance. Kesian the flers. Since Melaka is so jammed up, they gotto carry the "dragon", and have their breakfast while the parade is stucked in the jam. As soon as the traffic is moving again, they stopped eating and continued to dance. haha funny sight.

They balanced the giant flag with their hands and head, I think?

And the people dressed up as the "gods" and walking around on stilts.

And lastly the Barge carrying the signs of the zodiac that was predicted to have the most challenges this year.
Another pic of the Barge from my iphone.
And the amount of people that joined the procession.

They started at 7am and then they walked around the town. We met them again when we're at the Red House area. And then we met them again while we're having dinner. Later , they walked to Pulau Melaka and burnt the Barge together with all the evil spirits and bad luck.

Well, I hope that it took away our bad luck. Cos my Justin was hurt the night before while playing with his cousins and also we discovered that my hub's laptop got stolen from his car boot and few of us got sick after returning from this trip. :(

Sasha Cook: Eel fish soup

Before this, I have never tasted any fish soup before cos I don't really fancy fish. So since my hub n kids love to eat fish, I gotto cook fish for them. I was at the wet market, standing in front of fish seller and didn't know what to buy. So I just stood there and observe at what they have chosen and briefly asked them how they cook the fish that they selected. So happened both the lady I spoke to told me that this eel fish (NOT EEL! But a fish that looks like eel) is very tasty to make soup and it's not fishy at all after u have fried the fish and then boil it in the soup. Curious, I bought one piece (rm 8) and halved it for 2 rounds of soup.

They suggested:
Tai tau choi Cha Choi (thanks to Tracy ;) I corrected it)
Tomatoes
Soup taufoo
Eel fish (fried and then put in soup to boil)
Pepper
A lil salt ( since tai tau choi is slightly salty, recommend that you put salt last)

And the soup is really nice. I thought that if I were to cook it in the morning it will be fishy by night. But after heating it up for dinner, the soup is really lovely.

The women also told me that she substitute this eel fish with chicken and pork and it taste nicer. She said its healthier too (didn't hear why she was saying cos someone also bought and I was worried there's none for me ! Hehe)

P/s: super busy with work n playing with my Thermomix. So I thought better blog about this and delete the pics in my iPhone cos the storage is about to burst and I better blog about this so I can refer to it next time (worried that I'll forget how to cook it) cos my brain storage is about to burst too. LoL

Busy!

Woah! MIA for 13 days!

As you all know, sch just started. This year my lil baby is going to sch too.

He was alright at the beginning but it's been a week now and still there are a few ppl who cries in class. So the teacher cannot start to teach or concentrate on other kids, so lil boy is abit bored and reluctant to go to sch. Today he wore his slippers to school as a sign of refusal to go to sch :S

Jayden is very good. He is very excited and happy that he get to go back to sch. I don't know why, but he just love to study. Just wait until he get his homework, then probably he'll start to wear slipper to sch too. *lol*

Meanwhile, I've also posted 2 tutorial in my Sewing Monster website.

And since I'm waiting for my customer's feedback on the packaging design, I've been working on our photobook (bought the voucher almost 2 years ago and its nearly expiring!) and hopefully get our holiday pictures printed out first.

Then the hardest part is doing the baby photobook. I've lost all Justin's first year baby pics after I resigned and returned the mac back to my company. I've save the pic somewhere and I cannot find the cd anywhere. But then, life must go on. Now on, I need to save the pictures properly *finger crossed* and this year I wanna be more organised.
(say only.. dunno berjaya or not Ahaks!)

Finally P&O is out.

After our first visit to the dentist, both my SIL smsed me the contact for child friendly dentist. So since one of the is just opposite our Dr's clinic, I said " hey why not just bring and see what she says". So off we went to Smile Dental.

The kids were greeted with Nickelodeon's cartoons and also a play area. When she called Jayden into the room, she told him that the chair was a spaceship and he can control it if he press a few buttons. He got too excited when she allowed him to press some buttons to see the chairs going up and down.  Then got him up to the chair and began to inspect his teeth.

He kept asking her:
can you change the channel?
can you increase the volume?
yes the kid can watch tele while the dentist check on them.
And then he asked the weirdest question
Can you remove your white gloves? I don't like it O.o

So the dentist checked and said that we can remove the teeth today but with a jab, but looks like JD is not going to cooperate while she jab his gums. So best is to go home and shake the teeth and hopefully one week later it will be better and she can remove it using the numbing gel.

Just to introduce him to dentistry, she said maybe she can polish his teeth and let him feel how is it like to visit the dentist. So she polished his teeth, he giggled and said it's ticklish. He saw the paste she used and asked her "is that strawberry toothpaste?" She said "no. Its bubble gum flavour". "Can you give me strawberry flavour toothpaste?". She said "okay. this is strawberry bubblegum flavour toothpaste". Voila. he sat quitely and she polished his teeth without any fuss.

So its been a week since the last visit and today was the day to remove his so called crocodile teeth.
Can u see the extra teeth sprouting behind? That's the new teeth. The dentist said it's quite shaky but not that shaky. So we need to apply some gel and quickly remove both the teeth, F-A-S-T. She told me "mummy, please harden yr heart". I said "naah... no problem". And she started.

(do not watch with yr kids. Otherwise you will freak them out!)

1,2,3........10. And he cried so loud and began to tear. It's been so long since I am helpless when any of my babies cried in pain (cos i usually laugh at them and say "i told you!")  But I manage to held back and told him something lah. I forgot what i said edi. You can hear it in the video. hahah

Anyway, the process was fast. And while he was crying I gave him a new train. And quickly he went off to open and play with it. But scream once in a while, while waiting for me to do my filling.

So I took the teeth back and washed it really nice and dried it up.
And put it into the Baby Tooth I won from Fab Moms & Tots long time ago.

place them exactly to the tooth placement in the mouth

the album with the plastic container.

His name written on the album

The date that it came off.
Now do you know why the blog post is called P&O??
cos the placement of the teeth was labelled as P & O in this chart.

I'm so proud of him. Spoke to him after we got back from the dentist and he told me it's not painful anymore. But he is scared to eat cos he said "later the food go into the hole how??" So I guess it's gonna take him a few more days before he can settle down.

Taiping Equine Park

We're in Taiping during Christmas for a road trip Ipoh-Taiping holiday with my in law's family. One of the activity we did was to visit Taiping Equine Park so that the kids can ride on the horses. If you are wondering where is Equine Park, its around the Taiping Lake Garden, on the left before the Zoo/Night Safari. (it's a one way street around Taiping Lake Garden so everyone goes round and round like merry go round).

This is the price list for the different rides.

Jayden got very excited and surprisingly he asked to go on a ride , by HIMSELF.  I though okay fine.. maybe he'll chicken out at the last minute. But  I was so wrong.

Happily wore the helmet and hopped on THAT particular horse that he like.

I am so proud of him. No sign of fear at all. No wonder they use horses for therapies with kids.

He kept patting and "sayang"ing the horse for that 2 rounds. Can see that he loves the horse ^_^

What a pose right??? *LOL* actually I think he was scratching his head or adjusting his helmet.
Guess who also wanted to ride after he saw his kor kor riding on a horse?

The lil guy wanted to ride but with one condition - IF mami goes along. What to do ? Go lah! He was pretty excited when he got on the horse. But as soon as the horse started to walk, there were TOTAL SILENCE. For the first time, my son is speechless. Ha! Even I am abit afraid cos the horse is the biggest one so we're quite high from the ground.

He told me "Mami, I am scared". There's still one more round to go so I told him "No need to be scared. Prince (the horse's name) is the best horse here. He is the ONLY white horse here. A special one. And he is handsome , just like you!". Syiok lah after that. And we survived 2 rounds of riding on a horse without him asking to go down halfway. Phew!

I can say I'm pretty happy that we brought them here. I discovered that Jayden is fearless and is very adventurous compared to the brother. And both of them enjoyed the ride. So did I. :D
